Choose Your Reactions: Turn Off Anxiety and DP

Written by Ronnie Freedman, Ph.D.

“We choose our sorrows and our joys long before we experience them.”
Kahil Gibran

We actually do choose exactly how we wish to feel, although we might not be aware of it. We make decisions every moment of our lives, conscious or not that influence how we react.

In order to eliminate anxiety and/or depersonalization, one has to accept that they are fully responsible for the way they feel, the way they live their lives and the way they react.

Both anxiety and depersonalization are dependent upon the habit of  fearful, negative thinking. This is what fuels both conditions and is a form of unconscious self-sabotage. Recognize this catalyst and you are on your way to disarming both conditions.

It often appears that life is happening to us, but this is not the case. Every moment of every day, we make decisions that influence our lives. We are what we think and thought determines how we feel. Change your thoughts and you will succeed in changing your life, along with the reactions associated with anxiety and depersonalization.

The very moment you awaken in the morning, a thought rushes in. Start becoming aware of your thoughts. You may be astonished at the line of thinking you carry on throughout your day.

Remember, you have a choice about how you feel and  how you react. Any time you wish, you may change your thoughts, interrupt your thoughts or substitute them with a new, more productive way of thinking. You have the ability to become whatever you think about. Your body takes your thoughts and turns them into reactions…positive or negative reactions. So why not choose to feel calm, peaceful and free of intrusive reactions. All that is necessary is to change the way you think. We are what we think about all day long so why not change it up in your favor!

Every anxiety reaction is triggered by a thought. The body responds to thoughts instantly. You may reactions occur “out of the blue” but this is not true. However fleeting it may seem, a thought has definitely occurred.

An exhausted mind is the result of constant, worried, fearful THOUGHT.  This line of thinking leads to a less resilient mind and often uncomfortable feelings of brain fog or depersonalization.

You have the ability to CHOOSE your reactions and create the mind/body you desire. You can switch off uncomfortable feelings and create the mood that suits you. You have much more control over your reactions than you ever imagined.

Try the following and take control back:

  • Start noticing your thoughts, from the time you wake up in the morning. Fearful, negative thoughts lead to a fatigued, anxious mind.
  • Have the courage to interrupt your thoughts and learn how to substitute them with more productive ones.
  • Learn how to “retrain the brain” and reduce second “what if” fears.
  • Choose foods that will allow the mind and body to neutralize anxiety and depersonalization. Let your foods start working for you rather than against you.

It’s time to choose how you wish to feel and gain full control of your life. It’s invaluable to learn and all that is required is a willingness to do so. No medications required and the results are astounding. You have nothing to lose except your feelings of anxiety and depersonalization.
